This week we did a science experiment where we got into groups and filled ⅔ of a balloon with water then put it in the freezer for 2 nights. When we got our balloons we examined it and observed it. Afterwards we peeled the balloon off the ice and sprinkled salt on it then watched it dissolve into the ice. Mrs Rendell then poured food coloring on it and it showed what it did to the ice. After we had some fun and smashed the ice into millions of pieces. My group (Xanda’s) learnt how salt melts ice and Noah A’s group learnt how the inside of the ice cracks when you sprinkle salt on the ice. Written by Xanda and Noah A

On friday 11th of November, Room 3 did a flowers experiment. We got into groups and each group got a cup, a flower, little of water and food colouring. The flowers’ petals changed into the colour of the food colouring. We could then see how the water travels up the stalk and into the petals. I found it interesting to see, and the flowers are on our window sill, they look odd.

Over the past few weeks our class have been doing a science experiment that involved mould. Everyone was apart of the experiment . Mrs Rendell split us into 5 groups , then we all got together and chose our toppings for the bread. We had cheese and margarine, fairy bread, wet bread, normal bread and toasted bread. After 3 weeks we all studied our bread in our groups and compared which ones were mouldy and whether the experiments in the light or in the dark went mouldier. Almost all of our breads were mouldy, but  the toasted bread contained no visible mould. It smelt horrible but was interesting.

Welcome back, term 4 is going to be yet another action packed term. The 7/8 formal, performance assembly, calf day, school athletics, Te Rapa Pools trip and Rainbows End trip.

We have begun with athletics training with room 1 & 2, this term as we will be running the school athletics on week 4 Wednesday. The focus has been on students part taking in all activities (long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, sprints and relay) to ensure they know which events they would like to select on the day. We have had some assistance from Mrs Daysh which has been great. Just two more weeks until the main day, so good luck to all of room 3!

Speeches

Week 3 & 4 Room 3 presented their speeches, there was a vast array of topics discussed including dogs, baseball, giving a good speech, the Titanic, being left handed and the Statue of Liberty.
They all did a fantastic job and was very hard to narrow down to the finalists to present to the senior syndicate, parents, teachers and the judging panel of Mr Spicer, Mrs Hayes, and Mr Byers.
A big congratulations to Keisha and James for representing room 3 for year seven; and Noah C, Xanda and Kiara for year six, they did a great job and all should be proud of how well they spoke.
From there Xanda and Noah C made the top 3 for year six and a Xanda will represent Stanley Ave along with Chase from room 4 at the Rotary Lions Club Speech Night.
Good luck Xanda for Wednesday evening, we wish you all the best.

Book Fair Week- MONSTERS

Some of Room 3 dressed up for Monster and book character dress-up day

Today was monster themed dress up day. In our classroom we had a variety of onesies. Different costumes such as Harry Potter, Bear Grylls & even Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Around the school we had quite a few matching onesies & other costumes. We had a great monster themed week as we had our book fair! (Hannah’s quote) When I got to school I just couldn't  wait  to see all the creative outfits there was even a Madusa. (Ella’s quote) it was great to see all the costumes and all the people who put so much effort into their costumes.

On Wednesday the 4th of May we turned off the bells for the day and rooms 1,2 and 3 were observing the rest of the school to see their reaction. Some people noticed that the bells didn’t go off and some people didn’t notice at all. We wrote down reports on our observations. From our observations of the students and teachers (from the middle and junior school) we realised that without the bells, students and teachers forget to keep the time. It turns out that we need the bells more than we realised.
