Sumdog National Contest

Congratulations Ben!! 19th on the leaderboard of our first Sumdog Contest!! It looks like you are going to be the first to your 1000 questions.
Keep up the great work Room 3, we have slipped down from 5th to 13th place overall but I'm sure you can change this by putting in your best effort next week.  Get on at home if you can and make the most of your independent learning time in Maths.  I will be watching with interest from home.  See you all Thursday.

Poppy Art

Poppies are used to commemorate soldiers who died fighting in WW1.  Today we began painting poppies by mixing warm colours and blending them to highlight light and dark.  We listened to our audiobook, Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo whilst sketching and painting today.  It was calm and peaceful in the classroom while the students worked on their art and it will be great to see the finished work very soon!

Room 3 bowled over with World Cup Fever!!!

Room 3 were inspired by our fantastic Black Caps today.  They tried out their bowling and batting skills with the school cricket gear.  We looked at keeping a straight arm when bowling and defending the wickets when batting.  Here are some shots of them in action:

Studyladder

Today the students received their Studyladder logins (which they keep in the back of their Maths books.  This site is great for students to practice their skills in key curriculum areas and have fun whilst doing it!  Take a look through with your child and feel free to come in and ask any questions about it.  I have set some relevant Mathematics tasks to get the students started.

Senior School Singing

On Fridays at 12.30pm an amazing sound rings out across Te Aroha, it comes from the lounge in Room 3 where we host Senior Syndicate Singing with the students from the students from the other senior classes.
I was surprised to hear the students of Room 3 tell me last before our first singing that they "don't like singing". I'm pretty sure they have changed their minds now they have experienced what senior school singing is all about!
