How far?

Today we used scales to measure distances on maps of our hometown Te Aroha:  

• First we used the map to measure from our house to the school using the scale at the bottom of the map.

• Secondly we crosschecked this using the 'measure distance' feature on Google Maps to compare the distances and see how close we got.

• Thirdly we measured our school to the town clock.  It was pretty hard.

• Then we shared all our data into a Class Doc in Google Sheets.

• We then helped our groups to finish their work..

• Then we had to write this reflection:

Environmental Writing

This week we did some environmental writing. 

Here is a short video of our class focused on their writing.  

We have been using an app called Relax Melodies during writing time.  

That is the music you can hear playing in the background.  

It helps us concentrate and also stops Mrs Horan from interrupting us 

and distracting us from our writing.  :)

To Mine or Not to Mine?

Following the senior trip to the Martha Mine in Waihi, Room 3 have been looking at a mine a little closer to home.  The Tui Mine has been the focus of local interest for a range of reasons.  We are exploring the impact of this abandoned mine on the different people our community.

Mathematics Guest in Room 3

Today Mr Moody came to Room 3 to teach a special Maths lesson to our Yellow Group.  The student's were learning to use known multiplication facts, in this case 5 x table and 10 x table to solve more difficult multiplication problems.  The student's enjoyed the session greatly.  Thanks Mr Moody!
