Why Things Move The Way They Do

Room 3 have been looking at Isaac Newton's Three Laws of Motion.  During our investigations, we have discovered that air resistance opposes motion.  This means it makes things that are moving stop or slow down.  We created parachutes to take advantage of this, aiming for them to catch as much air as possible in order to descend as slowly as possible.  It was quite an adventure!

  1. I learnt that the more weight the faster it will float down

  2. I liked it because I learnt a new thing our two about the forces and mass

  3. the parachutes were easy but also fearly hard we had to have the right equipment but it was a creative thing to do

  4. It was super fun and I learned that the bigger the parachute the slower it goes :)

  5. It was a bit hard but they were fun to make. I think it was a well related activity to do for inquiry.

  17. you missed how we need to use decent so it takes longer to hit the ground

  20. I have learnt about how if you have to much weight on the parachute it falls straight down but you also need some weight for stabilization so it doesn't flop around and the surface area needs to be big to catch air so it floats longer. =)

  21. I liked to make the parachutes, the best highlight was when me and Jarden dropped it.

  22. The one with the biggest area has the slowest decent

  23. I also learnt heaps about air resistance and they actually depended on the wind the surface of the parachute and how the parachute was made it was fun doing the parachutes. =)
