HOMEWORK – WEEK 2 – TERM 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Structured Homework in Room 3 will begin next Friday, after students have been tested on Spelling and Basic Facts and put into groups depending on their results.
Each week there will be Reading, Spelling, Basic Facts, Current Events and a Just for Fun activity.  Some things will need to be completed in your homework book and some things online using your personal blog.
This week I have a Current Events activity for you to complete either in your homework book OR on your personal blog.
During the past 3 days you have been learning about The Treaty of Waitangi with Mrs Corrigan and writing our own class treaty.
Tomorrow is Waitangi Day so there should be a lot in the media about the celebrations on this special day.
Find an article in a paper, online or by watching the news about the Waitangi Day celebrations.
Find the Who, What, When, Where and How and then summarise the article in your own words.
Be prepared to share in class.
I look forward to hearing your summaries
~~~~ Mrs Horan ~~~~

Week 3-Term 2-2014

This week you need to put two entries into your blog.

We have been learning to write reviews over the last two weeks. This time you are going to find a video clip from youtube of your choosing. It doesn't have to be a music video. Once you have found one, embed it onto your blog. Then underneath you must write a review on this video clip. Remember the review format

1st paragraph (intro)
  Hook
  What are you reviewing
  was it good?
Middle paragraph
  what actually happened through the video (no spoilers though)
last paragraph (conclusion)
  was it good?

Week 2-Term 2-2014

This week you need to put two entries into your blog.

kei te haere ahau ki runga ma motopaika pango

Can you remember what this means?

For your homework, I need you to write two sentences of your own, except instead of vehicles like we did in class, I want you to write what animal you could be riding instead.
1. Find the name of two animals (in maori) you want to ride in your sentence. (don't forget the colour)
2. Write those two different sentences.
use www.maoridictionary.co.nz to help you

Here's my sentence (try and guess what I am saying)

kei te haere ahau ki runga ma taniwha kakariki

Week 1-Term 2-2014

This week you need to put one entry into your blog.

Find out 6 different colours in Maori and write these on your blog.

Week 10-Term 1-2014

This week you need to put one entry into your blog.

Watch another video of Simon's cat. (If you are smart enough, try and embed this to your page). Then write a limerick about what happened. Here is my example:

Simon's cat sat at the door
All tired and quite hungry
He threw a pot but smash it did not
And now his tummy was rumbling

Week 9-Term 1-2014

This week you need to put two entries into your blog.

Cyber safety has been our topic this term. Have a look online and do some searching to find more information on cyber safety. This brings up the question. Who reads our information?

    Entry 1.
    Find some 'privacy statements' or 'terms and conditions' from children's favourite gaming sites, education sites or social networking sites, and post this to your blog. Find the information that says who's going to get information you post.
    Examples of sites could include things like Club Penguin, Disney, sports game sites, Facebook, educational sites that you recommend for the students etc.

    • Entry 2. Answer these questions.
    • 1. Do you or your family read the terms and conditions before signing up to play games etc?If not, why not? Lots of people don't read the privacy statements, but why do you think it would be a good idea to have a look?
    • 2. How can you find the information you need the most?
    • 3. What can you do if you don't understand what the statement says?
    • 4. Why might a website want to pass on your information to other people?

Week 8-Term 1-2014

This week you need to put one entry into your blog.

This week you will have to write a piece of writing using a range of gems that you have learnt about in class. Upload a picture of an action scene (I googled "action photography" and found some cool action shots).

From here you will need to write a descriptive piece of writing describing this scene using the types of gems we have learnt in class.

Examples could be:
write some personification to do with the objects in the picture (water, basketball etc)
compare the objects/people to something else (simile)
Show not tell us what the people are feeling (hot, cold, excited, sad etc)
Include staccato sentences to vary your writing.

The best piece of writing will be placed on the class home page. Good luck!
If you're unable to upload a picture, just focus on getting your writing up.

Week 7-Term 1-2014

This week you need to write 2 entries into your own personal blog.

1. upload a new photo of something you care about. Make sure to tell us what it's about!
2. Your self learning will be homework this week. Put on your blog some of the learning you are doing in regards to learning goal from last week. If it is playing an instrument or performing a skill, upload a video (no longer than 1 minute) of whatever you are practicing.

Week 6-Term 1-2014

This week you need to write 2 entries into your own personal blog.

1. Write a summary of the personal book that you are currently reading. What's happening? Is it exciting? Why/why not. Give it a rating out of 10

2. Write down something you would personally like to learn this year. Examples could be:
   - learn a musical instrument
   - learn how to pass a rugby ball the other way
   - learn more about a topic your interested in (Space, Egypt, Justin Bieber)
